“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I received a pretty positive reaction from the last steps I posted, so I want to continue on with even more steps you can take today to be a success.
You can catch up on the first 20 steps here.
1. Walk before you run.
2. Read a book.
3. Turn your computer off.
4. Declutter your life instead of just your inbox.
5. Smile.
6. Get everyone to underestimate you – then let ‘em have it.
7. Act based on what you know, not what you hear.
8. Quit your job.
9. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
10. Stop obsessing over local news.
11. Be different.
12. Think about where you were a year ago today.
13. Act your age, but be a kid at heart.
14. Think about where you are now.
15. Stand with your chest out, shoulders back.
16. Know who your real friends are.
17. Start a business.
18. Be honest.
19. Reward yourself.
20. Dream.

Yay! My suggestion was included!
Thanks for mentioning it. And other other ideas you’ve suggestions are great. All of these are excellent steps to take in order to be successful!
It’s no problem, Dani. Glad you like the new steps!
Great list of steps. You mentioned a couple i found interesting.
#2 – Talk less: i would even say you could add “Talk More” to your list. So many people let opportunities pass them by because either they are too shy or not willing to let their voice be head.
#14: Mentor a child – Not only mentor a child but get a mentor of your own. I really thing this is an important step we can take to make our lives more success. What’s better than learning from those who’ve been there.
Thank you very much, though I think you meant my 20 earlier steps.
Hi John,
Great list – both this and the first one! I’m especially drawn to #11 – be different. The easy thing to do is conform. Yet, is it? If it’s not really “us”, then we’re holding ourselves back – so I’m all for being different (even though there are days I struggle with that concept…)
Great to have you here, Lance! I agree with your pick #11. It’s good to be strange. That way there will be no one else like you.
My personal favorite one was think about where you were a year ago. When I reflect back to what I was doing a year ago and what I am doing now and the growth I am a new person
@Greg Yes! That one opened my eyes as well. It’s really mind-blowing when I think about where I was a year ago.I feel like I’ve made so much progress towards who I want to become.
