“College is like a fountain of knowledge – and the students are there to drink”

The first year of college has been a blast. I’ve meet so many great people, been to a lot of great places, and learned about so many things that it’s kind of overwhelming. It hasn’t been all fun and games, but for the parts I enjoyed, I can safely say that college is shaping up to be one of the best times I’ve ever had.

Throughout this journey, there are some notable things I’ve learned that I wish to share with you. I hope these are at least somewhat useful:

1. Attend most of your classes

Remember in high school where you had to attend class everyday? Well in college, your teachers aren’t going to baby you into coming to class. If you don’t show up for the entire week, they don’t care. They’ve already been paid by your tuition, so how you use the result of that payment (education) is up to you.

2. Don’t underestimate the power of a nap

I never used to take naps before I went to college. Now, just about whenever I need an energy boost, I take a short nap and instantly, I am ready to take on any task. I can’t necessarily explain why I feel so pumped up after taking a nap, but apparently taking naps is good for you.

3. Thai food is awesome

There’s nothing I’ve eaten more of than Thai food at college. I don’t know what makes it so good, but the fact that I go get Thai food every other week has to mean something.  I used to be a fried rice fanatic, but now I’m really into drunken noodles. It’s also not even that expensive so if there’s a Thai food restaurant near your campus, you should definitely go get some.

4. Try new things

Become a risk-taker in college. What exactly do you have to lose? You have absolutely no income (yet), you’re mostly isolated from your parents, and the majority of college students don’t even know who you are. If you make a fool of yourself experimenting, no one’s going to care as much as you think they will. If I thought about the risk of being made fun of before I tried taking Japanese or started this blog, I would’ve never become the person I am today: a risk taker. I wouldn’t be taking Japanese and you wouldn’t be reading this right now. So don’t be afraid to try new things.

I plan on elaborating a bit further on my experiences in college within the coming months as the summer quarter winds down. For all my readers, thank you for supporting me thus far. I really want to give you guys good advice in order to possibly better your life.

Until next time.
